What Schools Is West Ranch in Friendswood Zoned To?

A red brick school building with a flagpole under a clear blue sky

West Ranch in Friendswood, Texas is in Friendswood ISD, and most West Ranch listings in 2026 show the same three campuses: C.W. Cline Elementary, Friendswood Junior High and Friendswood High School. That is the usual answer, not a guaranteed one. Friendswood ISD redrew its zones for the 2023-24 school year with FM 528 as a main dividing line, so the elementary and intermediate campus can change from one section to the next. Confirm the exact address with the district before you write an offer.

This surprises buyers more than it should. A neighborhood name on a listing does not tell you the school. The street address does.

Why One Neighborhood Can Mean Two Answers

Friendswood ISD built a new Cline Elementary inside West Ranch as part of its 2020 bond, replacing the older Cline building on Briarmeadow Avenue. Opening it meant moving students around, and in 2022 the board approved new attendance zones that took effect in 2023-24. Per Community Impact’s coverage of that vote, FM 528 became the main line between being zoned to Westwood Elementary and Bales Intermediate on one side, and Windsong Intermediate or Cline Elementary on the other.

So most of West Ranch lands with Cline. Not every source agrees on every section, though. At least one local agent’s 2026 guide says Westwood Elementary serves parts of West Ranch, and listing sites carry a line telling buyers to verify the school themselves. When two sources disagree, the district wins.

The County Line Matters Too

Friendswood sits on the Galveston and Harris county line, and that line does more than change the tax bill. Friendswood ISD serves students who live in the Galveston County part of the city. The Harris County part of Friendswood is generally in Clear Creek ISD. West Ranch is in Friendswood ISD, but if you are comparing a West Ranch home with one a few miles north, check the county on the appraisal district record first. It answers the district question before you even get to the campus.

The taxes follow the same line, which our look at what your budget buys in West Ranch gets into.

How to Check a West Ranch Address

Here is the order we use with buyers:

  1. Pull the appraisal district record for the property and confirm the county and the school district listed on it.
  2. Enter the full street address on Friendswood ISD’s attendance zone page. If the map is hard to read for your street, call the district’s enrollment office with the address.
  3. Write down every campus: elementary, intermediate, junior high and high school. The intermediate assignment is the one most likely to differ by section.
  4. Ask the district whether any rezoning is under study. A vote in progress today is a new map in a year or two.
  5. Do all of this during your option period. Our piece on how long the Texas option period lasts explains why that window is the time to confirm anything that would change your mind.

Notice what is not on that list: a rating, a ranking or a neighbor’s opinion. If school matters to your move, visit the campus, talk to the school and read the district’s own reports. That tells you far more than a score on a website.

What This Means When You Buy or Sell

If you are buying, treat the school listed on the MLS sheet as a starting point. The disclaimer on those listings is there for a reason.

If you are selling in West Ranch, give buyers the right answer up front. We confirm the zoned campuses for the exact address before a listing goes live, so nobody finds a surprise during the option period.

Frequently Asked Questions

What school district is West Ranch in?

What elementary school is West Ranch zoned to?
Many West Ranch listings in 2026 show C.W. Cline Elementary, the newer Friendswood ISD campus built inside the community. Some sections may be assigned to Westwood Elementary after the 2023-24 rezoning, so check the exact address with the district.
What high school do West Ranch homes go to?
West Ranch homes inside Friendswood ISD feed to Friendswood High School, with Friendswood Junior High as the junior high campus listed on most 2026 West Ranch listings. Confirm both for the specific address before you rely on them.
Can school zones in West Ranch change after I buy?
Yes. Friendswood ISD redrew its zones for the 2023-24 school year after opening the new Cline Elementary, and a district can redraw again when enrollment shifts. The zone at closing is not a promise for the years after.
How do I confirm the school zone for a West Ranch address?
Use Friendswood ISD's attendance zone page or call the district's enrollment office with the full street address. Do it during your option period, before your inspection and negotiation window closes.
